[edit] Requested move
Broadway → Broadway theatre – Broadway currently redirects to Broadway (disambiguation). There are a large number of links to Broadway, and the vast majority of them appear to be about Broadway theatre. Currently, Broadway theatre has about 2000 articles linking to it, whereas Broadway (New York City), the second most common meaning of the word, has about 200 articles. It seems to me that because the primary meaning of Broadway is Broadway theatre, the article should redirect there with a disambiguation link at the top --Bill 20:29, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

- Oppose - hundreds of links to other uses is significant. --ChrisRuvolo (t) 20:42, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
- Oppoes - not a good idea - there are other meanings of the term. I have been disamb'ing a lot of them, and with some help, it won't take long. --rogerd 17:38, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] revert of move to Broadway (disambiguation)

I disagree with your move of Broadway to Broadway (disambiguation). A couple of months ago, I spent a lot of time disambiguating Broadway, and I found that by far, the vast majority of links to Broadway (> 80%, would be my guess) needed to be redirected to Broadway theatre. There aren't very many now, since I fixed them all recently. --rogerd 01:39, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- I'm sure that you are correct in that most links to Broadway refer instead to Broadway theatre. However, it doesn't make very much sense to have "Broadway" redirect to "Broadway theatre." Broadway theatre is an entity that, while intricately interwoven with Broadway the street, is nevertheless distinct from that street. Also, the fact that most "Broadway"s have to be redirected to the theatre article in and of itself indicates that, as a place/street/etc., most references (if not errant Wikilinks) to "Broadway" are to the New York City street, which, naturally, is the seat of Broadway theatre. References to Broadway theatre should point to that article (which you yourself took care of); any references to simply "Broadway," however, should point to the NYC street, seeing as how it is very unlikely that the intended article would be that about Broadway in New South Wales, or Broadway in New Jersey. —Larry V (talk) 03:39, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- My point is that (lazy) editors will insert references to Broadway, like "Matthew Broderick appeared on Broadway in The Producers" when clearly they didn't mean to reference the street. I know, I fixed hundreds of these. With your change, it will be very difficult to find these errant edits and point them to the right place. By having them go to a disambiguation page, then it will easier (especially of you use WP:POP) to correct them. With your change, they will go to the NYC street, making it necessary to go through the correct references to the NYC street to find the errant links. --rogerd 03:48, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Broadway Theatre
The theatre, by that name is very different from the theatre in general in NYC being referred to as Broadway theatre... There should be an article on this and the guidelines do provide for a red link that needs an article. Doc 01:46, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
