Salter Oval is the major venue for rugby league in the Central Queensland Capital, Bundaberg. In 2005 it played host to major sporting events such as the QRL Divisional Titles. It was built in 1930 for cricket matches but in recent years it has become the home of Rugby league in Buundaberg and the Wide bay area. The Ground has a total capacity of 4678 including the main News mail grandstand and grassed areas there are also wooden grandstands. In January 2008 the Government announced an 6000 capacity upgrade including 3 new News mail grandstand and one major grandstand on the right side of the ground. After work is complete the stadium will have a capacity of 10000. The stadium after completion will be considered the best Rugby League venue in Regional Queensland. Wests Rugby league club will become the home team for the ground after development with the introduction of the Regional Quensland Rugby League Competition. The highest attendance for a match at Salter oval was 1222 when the ground hosted the Fraser Coast Rugby League grand Final the ground is said to boost crowds by about 67%. Many locals approve of the idea but don't see the need for such a large capacity upgrade.
