[edit] Academics
The school focuses on outstanding achievement with its students, with a strong focus on literacy standards and ICT. Its students are able to read and write above their chronological age. [2][3] Internationally, the school has had students participating in competitions such as the New South Wales Academic Competitions, and averages three High Distinctions(the students are in the top 1%) each year.
[edit] Structure
The school students are split into four classes, into the following general arrangement:
- Year 0 (New Entrants) to Year 2 are in Kowhai (Pronounced Ko-Fie)
- Year 3's and Year 4's are in Tawa
- Year 5's and 6's are in Rimu (Pronounced Ree-Mew)
- Year 7's and 8's are in Matai (Pronounced Mat-Eye)
Some students are placed in higher classes according to their level of achievement, e.g. some Year 6's are placed in Matai, as some Year 2's are placed in Tawa.
Following commencement of the 2007 school year, a new classroom, Nikau (Knee-Cow), will be formed to adjust the teaching load so that the ratio of teacher per students does not pass 1:30
[edit] School Colours
The school's main colour is yellow. While the school itself does not have a uniform, a sport t-shirt, for events where the school is represented by its students, is provided, coloured yellow with black text.
Other areas around the school, such as the school sign at the main entrance, and the school website continue this colour scheme, though in varying shades of yellow.
[edit] Grounds and Facilities
In accordance with the school vision, to provide the best facilities for its students, it has an up to date Administration and Library building, modelled on the original school house that use to sit on the land, four classrooms, two of which have been built in the last decade, a swimming pool and changing rooms, and a sports storage shed.
