Bromford Junction
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bromford Junction (grid reference SO996899) at the foot of the Spon Lane Locks is the junction of the Spon Lane Locks Branch and the BCN New Main Line near Oldbury in the West Midlands, England.
When Thomas Telford built the wider, straighter BCN New Main Line to bypass the Smethwick summit and the Smethwick and Spon Lane locks, his new canal intersected the original Wednesbury Canal at what became known as Bromford Junction. His new canal superseded a further short length of the Wednesbury Canal as far as Pudding Green Junction, leaving a shortened Wednesbury Old Canal.
