Broken Van is a compilation of previously unreleased and rare tracks by The Broadways. With the exception of "Fuck The Church", available only on the Drive Thru compilation Where's The Beef?, the album completes the band's discography after their sole full-length Broken Star.
Tracks 1-7 were new and previously unreleased tracks, recorded in May of 1998. There were rumours that these, or some of them, were originally intended for release on a split CD with Baxter. [1]
The rest of the album's tracks came from The Broadways' early 7" vinyl releases: 8-10 from We All Know You Can Do It (the band's own Bicycle Records) and 11-15 from Big City Life (Asian Man Records).

[edit] Trivia
- The title Broken Van appears nowhere on the album's elements themselves, but Asian Man Records' catalogs and the labels on new copies identify it as such.
- "I Think I Shall Never See..." was titled "I Think That I Shall Never See..." on Big City Life.
- There is an error on the album's back art that lists the songs "What Happened?" and "Lake Michigan" in the incorrect order.
- "This Routine" was originally a hidden track at the end of Dropjaw.
- Brendan Kelly stated during a live show [2] that the friend referenced in "I Think I Shall Never See..." is the same friend that he mentioned in the Broken Star song "25 Degrees North".
