[edit] Notes to Myself
[edit] External Links
Hi BrianZ. Regarding your link to atkinsalltheway.com in the Atkins Nutritional Approach article ... you might have better luck if you opened a discusson on the talk page of that article explaining why you feel that link should be included. You can also take a look at this page to see how your link may qualify for inclusion. Monkeyman(talk) 18:09, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hi again
Good to see that you've been busy on both your user page and articles. I fixed a couple of broken wikilinks to technical writer on your userpage. If a link shows up in red, it's pointing to a page that doesn't exist.
You might want to be careful about posting too much personal information on your page. In the past, some less than scrupulous vandals have been known to take things into real life. Emailing complaints to people's employers has happened in the past. It's your choice about how much you reveal, but I thought I would give you a heads up. --GraemeL (talk) 22:33, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
- I appreciate the heads up. I was 50/50 on adding my employer. I also plan on looking into adding articles on some of the red links. BrianZ 22:41, 16 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Your VandalProof Application
Dear BrianZ,
Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact with the new 1.2 version release it has even more power. As such we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that that you have not made enough edits.. Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again in the not too distant future. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. --Xyrael T 15:10, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
I understand, I'll continue to make edits and apply again later in the summer BrianZ 15:14, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
- Also, I wasn't patronising you with the .. after my reason, but it was a typo instead. Just thought I'd rather clear that up, and thanks for your understanding. See you around the project. --Xyrael T 15:51, 1 June 2006 (UTC)
No problem, I didn't even take it literally. :) BrianZ 15:20, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- Also, I *didn't* deny your application based on anything to do with the stuff on my talkpage - please see these issues as totally seperate. Thanks. --Xyrael T 17:11, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
okay, thanks for telling me. It's much appreciated. BrianZ 01:35, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

I figured so. Thank you so much for doing so. The user that created it, Tommac2 needs to be told that what he is doing is against policy and he just won't listen to me. BrianZ 05:04, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Case now in mediation - see here
A mediation cabal case has now been started to attempt to resolve this issue peacefully. As your assigned mediator (if you have a problem with this, do say and it can easily be reassigned), I'll be trying to see what both sides want and what both sides are willing to give, and will attempt to provide a reasoned solution for you both. You are never under any form of obligation to accept what I say, and but I'll try and be fair to both sides all the same. I am also here to advise on official Wikipedia policy from time to time. Thanks. --Xyrael T 17:18, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you Xyrael, it's nice to see that this will get resolved by someone instead of the continued and misguided arguments that have no place on Wikipedia. Please ensure that the user Tommac2 does not allow links to his site to appear on the Atkins Nutritional Approach article until a solution is found. Whatever that solution is, I'm happy with it, just so you know. BrianZ 18:06, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Will_vinton.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Will_vinton.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

[edit] Full protection on Atkins Nutritional Approach
You have been temporarily blocked for violation of the three-revert rule. Please feel free to return after the block expires, but also please make an effort to discuss your changes further in the future. |
When your block expires, please discuss any changes on the talk page, as the article has been fully protected. Naconkantari 15:49, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
{{unblock}}Naconkantari, User Tommac has reverted the Atkins article again to March 26th. His last revert was to spam his site on the article. I am fine with a 12 hour break, but the article needs to be reverted so that no links to commercial sites are allowed. That last revert were the article was clean was my last revert: 04:26, 6 June 2006 hisreverting of the article nullifies many changes besides mine, including several admins or editors deleting his spam.
This issue is currently in mediation and the article, thank God, has been locked so the spam will stop, but as the article stands, it is unclean and needs fixing.
I'm not sure why I was blocked, because I was following policy and fighting vandalism. I undertand that you are new to this discussion and may not have had a chance to view it in detail. i will discuss more after the block has been lifted. Please see Admin Graemel's edits of the external links on the Atkins article to see that the links should not be added. BrianZ 16:02, 7 June 2006 (UTC) ___________________________________________________
I'm adding that user Tommac2 has deleted several of my edits in order to make it look as if I am not involved or disputing any of his words and simply reverting his edits. I have been victimized here and I'm losing faith in Wikipedia. Someone who has experience with Vandals, please help me deal with this. How has this vandal been allowed to take this issue so far? BrianZ 16:12, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- I'd like to edit my userpage while the block is in place. Am I not able to? If so that's fine, but the block is allowing me time to be able to edit my user page instead of fighting spam. BrianZ 18:25, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Regarding your unblock request, I only see you making three edits to the article in question today, so I will take it up with Naconkantari. --Sam Blanning(talk) 19:04, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Howdy
I'm currently stationed at Fort Stewart, 4th BCT, 6-8 Cav. Yeah, some things don't change (RE: BS in the rear) but being a combat MOS in a time of open conflict kind of moderates the, well, chickenshit tendencies, for want of a better phrase, of certain individuals. Our 1sg is outstanding, our officers are outstanding, our NCOs are great, (Except that my section sergeant is in the barracks room next to me...) and there really is an E-4 cabal. I swear that there is. Of course there's quite a bit of downtime to play with, as we don't deploy for a while. The only thing really set in stone on our training schedule is a week of ranges next week. We get to play with 249s, M4s and m203s. Hooah.
[edit] Why Thanks!
Thank you for the whole information on the leaving the name and I am happy I finally got an account with wikipedia. I have been on wikipedia ever since 4th grade just searching articles for research projects and just to learn stuff. It is nice to be helping wikipedia in the ways that I can. So, thanks again for the comment, they mean a lot to me.

- You're Welcome. I wish I had Wikipedia when I was a kid. BrianZ(talk) 02:49, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] oh yeah....
on yours and some others pages
you have an awsome background...
how do you get that?
or is it some kind of special secret?
haha.
Chickyfuzz123 02:50, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
- It's actually pretty easy once you realize that you can have subpages and you can set your own CSS Styles.
- I actually stole mine from Sango123's user Page. I changed the colors and tons of content. It took me about 3 hours. :) You can check out Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award for some more ideas. I used Sangro's template because it was the most different, and I guess unique although not very much anymore by me using it. lol Interesting note, Sangro is 14. [edit] From Damo
Thanks for the welcome Brian.
I have a question.....
I uploaded a picture to wikipedia but I managed to do it with the wrong name. How can I change the name or page? I don't seem to see the 'move' option for the picture page?
The image in question is Nauton_Park.jpeg and really it should be spelt Naughton.
Regards & Thanks
D
DamienLaughton 08:39, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hey Damian, Try checking out this page: Wikipedia:Pictures needing attention. There are requests there to rename files. Moves/Renames can only be done by Admins and they are notified when additions are made to the page. Hope that helps. BrianZ(talk) 14:16, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay - I've updated that page - Thanks again!

[edit] [[RE: Infoart -- Copyright Concern]]
Hi BrianZ,
Thanks so much for your message re: copyright concern on the pages I've recently created. I'm new to Wikipedia, so am not all that familiar with the policies yet (but learning!).
I use Wiki a lot in my research, and noticed that there's not that many entries for contemporary art, so I thought it might be nice to contribute. Some of the text I've posted does appear on other websites -- but it is all mine. I'm a freelance art critic, so I regularly publish/post articles that I've authored. I hold the copyright to all of this material, and any quotes in these articles are from interviews that I've conducted with the subjects. Please let me know if this is ok for Wiki policy?
I'm really happy to provide proof of copyright for any of the texts. I noticed on the copyright guideline pages that an email from the original site of publication might suffice? Could you please let me know to which email address this might be sent, and I'll arrange to have written conirmation sent from the original publishers.
Thanks so much for all your help.
best, --Infoart 10:32, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure of the email that the users speak of, but I did see it referred on Wikipedia:Copyright problems. If I were you, I would post your situation on the page and someone will give you that information. I posted the copyright info for you because you, as I expected, were unaware and not malicious in adding your articles. I would try to make articles less like a reviews of the artists work and more biographical in nature. I hope that helps. BrianZ(talk) 11:37, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Your request for merge of Street Fighter EX2 Plus
I noticed, that you posted the merge tag under the above article and didn't vote in the discussion. This is just a friendly reminder that you may want to view the article again and post your vote. It has been expanded greatly since you placed the tag and you may disagree with your initial assumption. Thanks, BrianZ(talk) 18:05, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed, it shouldn't be up for merge any longer. I still think that there could be a better system for organizing the Streetfighter articles, as "EX2 Plus" only gets a quick mention of it's title on the main street fighter page. Video games aren't my area of expertise, but I somehow feel that something should be done to better standardize the articles. Anyways, thanks for dropping me the message. --KPWM_Spotter 18:16, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Video games aren't my area either. I was just checking out the article creators contribs since he's new and I was welcomign him, and I stumbled upon the article. No problem. BrianZ(talk) 18:18, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cruft Vandal
Got any suggestions regarding a vandal who creates a lot of crufy, unsourced, articles suitable for SD and AfD? I've put his name forth for blocking, but it seems admins don't have a record of an account's deleted articles - so it looks like he's practically clean (except for the articles still pending AfD). Ideas? Rklawton 21:07, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hmmm, I'm assuming you're talking about GVnayR. I looked over his talk page and noticed that no one has posted anything good. :) Do you have any admins you are friendly with that might be able to watch him for a short time? I'd report him for deleting warnings and blanking other people's talk pages. What about the deletion log? I'm surprised there is no way to research this user's past deleted articles. Just by reading this user's talk page, I can see something is fishy, but I'm not an admin so I can't look into it too deep. BrianZ(talk) 21:23, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

- With your interest in vandals, I thought you were an admin. My bad. Rklawton 21:24, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] In response to your deletion of images on Celebration fo the Arts festival
I appreciate your comments to me. Unfortunately, the only license I could find for the images that most resembled the actual license was noncommercial. If it's not allowed, then why include that license in the list?
I remember a while ago, "Promotional image from <site>" or something resembling it was an available license. Why not now? Do you have a suggestion as to what license I could use? The images are definately available and are often used in press outlets and are available in the COTA press kit. Thanks BrianZ(talk) 19:31, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- I've added the template {{Promotional}} to the images and left "None Selected" as the choice in the drop-down. I hope this is sufficient. Let me know if it's not. I'd rather work with you to fix the licensing so it's correct, then reuploading them after you delete them without working with me. Thanks again. BrianZ(talk) 20:49, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- This appears to be fine. By the way, I or any other admin can undelete any image deleted after June 25th, so if that is more convenient than reuploading, then there is no problem. If an image tag is listed on WP:ICT as a valid choice, you can always type it into the description box and use None Selected from the dropdown.
- Please make sure not to use any more fair use images than are necessary, further details of this are available at Wikipedia:Fair use.
- {{promotional}} and its entry on the license dropdown was removed because it was being badly abused by people who just slap "fair use" on every image they find on Google Images. For the reasoning behind having the noncommercial and permission options in the license selector, see MediaWiki talk:Licenses.
- Finally, don't forget to add a source URL to all the images you uploaded, including the three on Celebration of the Arts Festival, so that they will not be deleted. Stifle (talk) 21:56, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Podcast Template
First off Brian, great work. I love the new table template. Secondly, the other template typically goes on talk pages, thats where I've been putting them, and where other projects put them. Ganfon 20:50, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I only added the other one to a few. I'll fix that now. BrianZ(talk) 20:53, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- I was working on that myself. By the way, I also didn't agree with the 'size' issue of the template personally didn't bother me, but I did notice a lot of the links went straight back to the Podcast page, and wer'nt that necessary. I think as the project grows we'll be expanding the template many times. Also, when you respond to comments, please do it on my talk page, because I don't go back to other users pages to look for responses. It's just easier. Thanks! Ganfon 17:30, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Let's Get Rolling
The Podcasting wikiproject had a brief initial surge, but has since died away. I admit my part in this, I've been very busy as of late and have had little time to do any sort of editing. However the project has had almost no progress over the last few months. Our first task is to outline notability requirements. I have placed what was 'discussed' on the talk page on the main page, but there is certainly room for more input. Once the requirements are outlined we will need to start removing non-notable podcasts from Wikipedia. You all joined this project for a reason, now let's get the ball rolling.Ganfon 15:36, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Anthony delon.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Anthony delon.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. - This is incorrect, the bot is somehow not aware that the image is being used in 2 articles. I've added the second because somehow the image is in the article based on the subject of the image and it does not affect the "what links here" option. I realize this excuse is futile since it was a bot that posted this, but whatever. :) BrianZ(talk) 14:10, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Will_vinton.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Will_vinton.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. Thanks for uploading Image:Hughmccutcheon.gif.
You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Pak21 12:49, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'm just going to stop adding pictures to Wikipedia completely. Every time I add a picture, whether I take it personally with a camera or take it from a PR website or other location, it always gets deleted with some BS excuse. It's not worth the time looking for a picture to improve the Wiki when people just delete everything I do. BrianZ(talk) 13:43, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Hughmccutcheon.gif
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Hughmccutcheon.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Wizardman 16:10, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Jesse Green bio pic.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Jesse Green bio pic.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
- On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. High on a tree (talk) 19:40, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Vivas machina.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Vivas machina.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 03:25, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Vivas machina.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Vivas machina.jpg.
[edit] Speedy delete of Hittman
A tag has been placed on Hittman (band), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ~kevin talkemail 20:47, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Logo thomson.gif
Thank you for uploading Image:Logo thomson.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 13:01, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:AVCAlogo.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:AVCAlogo.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 20:49, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
