Brix Smith (born November 12, 1962 as Laura Elisse Salenger) is an American singer and guitarist, best known for being a member of British post-punk band The Fall, and as lead singer with The Adult Net. She has also released two solo albums. She was married to Fall vocalist Mark E. Smith between 1983 and 1989, appearing on the band's albums between Perverted by Language (1983) and Seminal Live (1989), and later rejoining the group for Cerebral Caustic (1995) and The Light User Syndrome (1996). During her period with the band she helped introduce a more mainstream, pop-oriented element to the group's sound. Following her break-up with Mark E. Smith, Brix had a fling with violinist Nigel Kennedy, and later married Philip Start, with whom she co-owns Start-London, a designer clothes shop.
