Since 1888 the British Record Society has been publishing historical documents from Great Britain, calendars of them and indexes to them. Since the creation of national record societies for Scotland, Ireland and Wales it has concentrated on English historical documents. It frequently publishes in co-operation with county record societies. In recent years it has been running two series: indexes to probate documents and texts of hearth tax documents.
