Bridie Carter (born 18 December 1970) is an Australian actress best known for her role as the main character of Tess Silverman McLeod on the television drama show McLeod's Daughters. Carter graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in 1994. In late 2005, Carter left McLeod's Daughters to focus on her personal life and was married to clothing designer Michael Wilson, with whom she has one son.
In November, 2007, it was announced that McLeod's Daughters would not be renewed when its current season finished airing. [1] Carter, no longer a cast member, gave an interview in which she said she "wasn't at all surprised" by the axing, and "I don't want to mar McLeod's, but not everything was as it appears. I find it strange that not one of the original cast members is left. Perhaps they should have tried harder to keep people." [2]
On November 24, 2007, Carter spoke to News Limited and admitted a history of alcoholism. She asserted eleven years sobriety and stated, "Everyone has a story to tell - we are all affected and influenced by the same things. My story is not that unusual." [3]
Carter and her husband currently own a restaurant in Byron Bay, New South Wales. [4]
