Brian Castro

Brian Castro (born 16 January 1950) is an Australian novelist and essayist.

Castro was born at sea, between Macao and Hong Kong, but has lived in Australia since 1961. He is currently a professorial research fellow in the Creative Writing department at the University of Melbourne [1] and resides in Melbourne with his defacto wife and her two children. [2]. He will be taking up the Chair of Creative Writing at the University of Adelaide in July 2008 and will relocate to Adelaide. [3]

- 1991: Victorian Premier's Literary Award Vance Palmer Prize for Fiction, and The Age Book of the Year Innovative Writing (or Fiction) Award for his third novel Double-Wolf
- 1992: Victorian Premier's Literary Award for After China
- 1997: National Book Council Prize for Fiction for Stepper
- 2004: Victorian Premier's Literary Award for Fiction, and the New South Wales Premier's Literary Awards Christina Stead Fiction Prize and Book of the Year for Shanghai Dancing
- 2006: Miles Franklin Award (Shortlisted), and the Queensland Premier's Literary Awards for Fiction for The Garden Book
