[edit] What's a user page?

Hi Brendan. A user page is a special page created for each registered user. Your very own user page is here. Most people use their user pages to describe a little about themselves. For more detailed information, see Wikipedia:User page. I hope this helps. -- Longhair | Talk 07:56, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Greetings!

Hi Brendan, I hope you read my comments over at VfD and know I was trying to help you understand whats going on. You were asking how an article can be vanity. That happens when a person writes about themselves, or one of their close friends writes about them. In a very few cases a person might have a famous or notable friend that they could write about, but most people don't, and so the article becomes more like vanity. Its a reason people use to get articles voted out of the Wikipedia. Another thing you might hear about are "sockpuppets" or "socks". Those words mean a user has more than one account that they use to make more than one vote. Its not very fair, and the admins or sysops here can tell when someone is doing it. Its different when someone has friends voting for them, thats more of a voting clique. Usually a user has to make a lot of edits before their vote would get counted anyways. I don't know all the rules here Brendan, but the ones I do know seem to work pretty well. Theres a lot to learn here in the Wikipedia, and I mean ALOT! I hope you write some useful stuff here and I wish you good luck! If you have any questions just click on the link to my user page and leave a note after you press the discussion tab. See you 'round!
