Bretton, Peterborough

Bretton is residential area of the city of Peterborough, Cambridgeshire in the United Kingdom. For electoral purposes it comprises North Bretton and South Bretton wards. Peterborough was designated a New Town in 1967 and Bretton was created as the city's first township; its construction began in 1970.
There are a number of primary schools as well as a secondary school, the now shut down Bretton Woods Community School [1],was replaced by the voyager school in 2007. The area has been designed as a green environment, the major roads are tree-lined and there are several large parks and playing fields.
Bretton's district centre is home to Sainsbury's, Iceland and Boots stores. It is currently being re-developed into a major shopping centre. Work is nearing completion and several new shops have opened including a Next store. Also in the centre is The Cresset which contains leisure facilities, a library, a church and further shops. Other leisure facilities in Bretton include Peterborough Ice Rink and an AMF bowling alley.
Budget Insurance, one of Peterborough's biggest employers, is based in Bretton.
There are many groups operating from Bretton such as the University of the Third Age (U3A), Judo, Adult Learning, and Bretton Youth Voice.
Bretton is also home to a number of active Residents' Associations many of whom pursue excellence in service provision from the City Council and additional authorities. Leading the way in progressive Residents' Associations is the Langley & Pyhill Residents Association who are particularly active and participate in a number of city wide management undertakings.
