Brett Nelson

Brett Nelson is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer and songwriter. Nelson was born in 1969 and currently lives in Boise, Idaho. In high school, Nelson played in a band called Farm Days, along with Doug Martsch and Andy Capps.[1] The trio would later reunite as the second line-up of Built to Spill. Nelson's next band, Butterfly Train, released two albums on Up Records, in 1994 and 1996, before breaking up. (Capps was drummer for the latter album.)

In 1994, Nelson and Capps joined Martsch's Built to Spill, and has appeared on every album except the debut, Ultimate Alternative Wavers. Nelson later formed The Suffocation Keep, with whom he sings and plays guitar and keyboards, along with Grady Kimsey-Guitar, Bill Pettitt-Keyboards, Scott Beazer-Bass, and Joe Hensley-Drums. The Suffocation Keep released their self-titled debut album in 2002. They finished a second album in 2004, entitled A Few Minor Modifications of the Stars. The album was never released; however, the band did make it available for free download. Nelson continues to perform in both Built to Spill and The Suffocation Keep.
