Brett Goldin

Brett Goldin (1977-2006) was a South African actor and part of the Crazy Monkey comedy troupe.

[edit] Early life

Goldin attended King David School, Victory Park, in Johannesburg. He finished his schooling at Crawford College High School before moving to the University of Cape Town to study further.

In 2004, Goldin wrote his first stage play, a one-man show entitled Bad Apple, which examined what would happen if a Columbine-style killing spree were to occur at a wealthy public school in Johannesburg. The production opened at the Intimate Theatre in Cape Town, directed by Matthew Wild on August 11, 2004. The production received excellent reviews from the local press.

Goldin was found murdered alongside a friend, Richard Bloom in April 2006. They were hijacked, assaulted and shot execution-style with two shots to their heads. They were found naked, except for their socks, Some media coverage of the murders, where pictures of the victims' naked bodies were published, was "particularly disturbing and highly insensitive"..[1] Goldin was due to leave for the UK, where he was part of the cast of South African production of Hamlet, four days after he died.

Among numerous theatre productions, his film and television credits include commercials for Pepsi and South African music chain CNA, short clips Crazy Monkey created for MTV, and a starring role in the South African hit movie Straight Outta Benoni.[1]
