Breaksea Islands (Tasmania)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Breaksea Islands Group ( 43°19′44″S, 145°57′54″E) is a group of two islands, known unofficially as North Breaksea and Main Breaksea[1], located 1 kilometre offshore in Port Davey, Tasmania in the Southwest National Park. The islands have a total area of approximately 16 hectares.

The islands are noted as a breeding site for many species, including Little Penguin, Short-tailed Shearwater, Fairy Prion and Silver Gull[1]. Rabbits were introduced in the 19th century by whalers[2] and have caused some damage to vegetation and soil[3].
