"Breakout" was a single from British jazz-pop/sophisti-pop act Swing Out Sister's debut album It's Better to Travel.

The single reached the number four position in the UK in 1986, and rose to number six pop and number one adult contemporary in the US in 1987. The song also resulted in a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Vocal Performance By Group or Duo.

The single was written and performed while Swing Out Sister was still a trio. It would become one of their biggest hits, and the song most closely associated with the act. In the USA, "Breakout" remains a staple of adult contemporary and smooth jazz radio station playlists.

The music video for "Breakout" features lead singer Corinne Drewery as a fashion designer, with the assistance of the other two band members, who designs and makes her own dress, and later makes a successful debut modelling it.

Perhaps owing to the song's continued popularity in Japan, a remix of "Breakout" by Orange Lounge was featured in Konami's 2006 release in the Bemani series, Beatmania IIDX DistorteD.

"Breakout" is currently featured in a SoftBank Mobile advertisement featuring Cameron Diaz.
