Breaking the Chains is the debut studio album by heavy metal band Dokken, released in 1983.

Dokken finally released their first full-length album when the L.A. glam metal scene was just starting to break mainstream, although the group had been active since the late 1970s along with such bands as Van Halen.[1] The album never broke the Top 100 on the Billboard 200, but has sold steadily over the years and is likely eligible for Gold status (selling over 500,000 copies) in the US, although the band has never been awarded a Gold record for this release.[citation needed] In contrast, the title track reached #32 on mainstream rock charts.

[edit] Additional album Information

This album is supposedly available as an import with different mixes of some of the songs. Also, in 1981, it was released as Breakin' the Chains on Carrere Records (France). This version contains some different mixes (and titles of songs). "Paris Is Burning" is called "Paris" and is actually a studio version. The album also contained a song called "We're Illegal" which was later turned into "Live to Rock." The title track is on the radio station V-ROCK in the video game, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
