Break It to Me Gently

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Break It to Me Gently" is a pop song written by Diane Lampert and Joe Seneca. The tune was originally a hit for Brenda Lee in 1962, climbing into the Top Ten of both the Country and Pop charts. Twenty years later, Juice Newton released a decidedly more "torch" version of the song. Newton's version hit #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, #2 on the Country chart, and #11 on the Pop chart. Newton received a "Best Female Vocalist - Country" Grammy award for her version of the song.

This song should not be confused with Angela Bofill's jazz ballad from 1981's Something About You.
