I feel guilty typing onto your fresh, recently archived, talk page. But, just to say I have done exactly that, User/2 etc. It is truly a great idea. No point in Esperanza if nobody knows about it! So long Banes 09:23, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

Please forgive the insufferable pompousness of this note; but I must just point out that your Esp.. template should say that instead of which, as far as I know. Lame, but true--Xiphon 14:52, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Advisory Committee election deadline set
Our new admin general, Essjay, has set the date for the advisory committee elections, that date being October 7th. By UTC it is October 5th right now. So see WP:ESP/E for voting in two days, and add yourself to the list if you're interested in running. On a personal note, I'm considering running, as I only resigned as admin general because of time. I'm sure I could help out on the advisory committee... Anywho, watchlist that page, and be sure to read the voting method too. Regards, Redwolf24 (talk) 01:07, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

Dear Bratsche: Thank you very much for your support on my RfA. I am most honoured by the trust that has been placed in me by yourself and other members of the Wikipedia community. I would also like to thank you very much for your assistance and support throughout the Bogdanov Affair saga; your valiant efforts assisted in keeping the "forest fire" reasonably contained, and it is quite a challenge to emerge from the Bogdanov Affair case alive! I look forward to working with you on Wikipedia in the future, and conversing with you via IRC. Best regards, --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) (e-mail) (cabal) 04:24, 8 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] A question about one of your changes
I'm new to wikipedia participation, so pardon any faux pas, please. The other night in a discussion forum elsewhere the same passage from wikipedia was quoted twice. As might be expected, they were different. The page in question related to determinants of feminine beauty and is a list of traits. I went investigating. What I found was that one list, dated prior to Aug 20 2005, differed from the post Aug 20 list and the changes made on Aug 20 were not supported by any notes or sources. The changes added "lighter complexion" and "smooth hairless skin" to the list. These changes certainly changed the nature of the information presented.
I looked further back and could not find any previous mention of those additions. So...I changed the text back to the pre Aug 20 text and left my reasons. Now I find that you have changed the text back to include the unsourced changes made on Aug 20. Rather than just change them back, I thought I'd ask you why you reverted the text back and what is the basis for the new information you are supporting. I cannot find the added language in the original, so what justifies it being added? Is there a new study or source I can review? Thanks. Hazarat 02:42, 12 October 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me. I will go through the "tasks" you listed and see if I can help. Hazarat 03:57, 13 October 2005 (UTC)
I went back to the "page in question" to see your changes, here they are:
"Symmetry of features: healthy
Large, widely spaced eyes: cute
Clear and somewhat lighter complexion: healthy
Contrasting colors and features: such..."
You did remove the "Hairless and smooth" part, but not the "and somewhat lighter" Here is the pre Aug 20, 2005 version:
"Symmetry of features: healthy
Large, widely spaced eyes: cute
Clear complexion: healthy
Contrasting colors and features:..."
Thanks, I'm sorry if I'm being a pest. I have not gotten the hang of the editing tool yet. My line spacing is not quite right. Hazarat 04:20, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] POPBot #2
Fvw, you wrote above that your POPBlocker needs another admin to run/block. I might be interested in doing that, but my level of technical competence is very low. Could you possible give me more details about what the "job" entails — i.e. is it just mass-blocking a list of IPs, or editting through open proxies? Thanks. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 15:14, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
- I can help too in some way, doing non-technical grunt work, if this helps in cutting down excessive vandalism. Would I just be running a script, or actually writing one? Cheers, Bratschetalk | Esperanza 18:32, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
- [from email --fvw] I'm interested in taking it over, if you need someone. How can I help? --Linuxbeak
- Thanks for your offers, what I can give you is
- A list of IPs that were open proxies during the last scan
- Shell scripts that block a list of IPs
- Shell one-liners to extract a plain list of IP:port's from some of the more popular open proxy lists
- Scripts to check whether an open proxy can edit wikipedia
- A script to extract a list of tor proxies that can edit wikipedia from the node directory (this one isn't my work, it's a slight edit of someone else's script)
- glue scripts
- What you'd need is
- An admin account on wikipedia
- An account on a unix machine with perl, zsh, lynx and all the usual niceties
- A reasonable familiarity with shell scripting and how open proxies work (perl might be useful too)
- The ability to write shell oneliners to scrape the list of to-be-tested addresses from online proxy lists (the current ones won't stay active or current forever)
- The willingness to dig through it all; it works well, but it's just a bunch of clumped together shellscripts. You need to work out what you want to do in what order
- The time to handle complaints about blocks
- I've put a tarball of the scripts and data (with the keys and edit tokens changed) at http://www.var.cx/wpproxycheck.tar.gz, I trust you'll be able to arrange things amongst yourselves. --fvw* 00:49, 1 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza: A Spanish User's Complaint
Hi Bratsche,
thank you for your nice welcome mail to Esperanza. I seize the first opportunity to get back in touch with you with a request for help which someone sent to me (no idea where he got my name from, probably from Esperanza: es:Usuario:Visitante sent me lengthy mail in Spanish complaining about Censorship in the Spanish Wikipedia (there is, by the way, lots of things about censorship on his user page - seems to be a great concern for him), concretly, that some administrators keep deleting his edits, which he explains in great length. Finally, his Spanish Wikipedia IP has been blocked, and that's why he turned to me for help. But it seems to me he has turned to 10 other people too, using a number IP, user:80.58.2.170. I would just like your advice on this, it somehow looks like a revenge action against the Spanish admin who blocked him. I just wanted to inform you of this; I suppose I won't react to it in any special way. Thank you for your attention,

[edit] Bogdanov Affair Blocking Action
Hi NicholasT: So, I know you're probably sick of this whole deal, but I noticed this on the new user log today:
- 23:23, November 1, 2005 User:IBogdanov (Created the user User:IBogdanov) [14]
The next action was to upload a picture of a few clowns over Image:PHOTOS IGOR GRICHKA.jpg, which I reverted a few times, since I was having a cache problem. I'm pretty sure this is either a sock or abusive username, so I blocked the account indefinitely under the ArbCom injunction. Would you like to review this block? You seem to be a chief enforcer of the affair, which we have so unfortunately fallen into. Thanks, Bratschetalk | Esperanza 04:46, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
- Dear Bratsche: Thank you very much for letting me know; you were quite right to ban this user, I seem to recall I blocked another account that did exactly the same thing. I think it is most probably a sockpuppet one of the critics who is now blocked under the injunction or banned from the article, and thinks it is funny - it is interesting to note the way that User:Rbj called it to attention on the Bogdanov Affair talk page the first time it was done (a telling hint, but of course we must assume WP:AGF). By the way, I trust your judgement completely in this matter, and would like to thank you for your hard work in this area. Best regards. --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) (e-mail) (cabal) 05:00, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Visitante
He is a "polemic" user. Most of the user think he is troll. Anyway, some vandalic IP and user disturb sometime, and there are clues that he is behind this. For example we suspect he is es:Usuario:El Rei who do spam with a message about who much "evil" are we. Someone told me he confess but I´m not sure if it´s true or not.
I´m going talk to him, but I´m not sure what´s going to happen. He did a lot of things in the past, but don´t listen to user who don´t agree. I blocked him after a "vandalic" edition in elven mars (he exactly wrote [http://www.example.com link title] in the begining, change a correct word for other incorrect, and delete some information. He alse rewrote some text.
He think it´s because he didn´t agree in es:Leonor de Borbón y Ortiz in a discussion with other admin.
Anyway, if I´m mistaken, I have no problem to apologize, but, as I said, he likes to say how much "evil" we are. As I told to El Rei, and him, if he has any problem with neutral point of view in an artcle, or with any user, he can ask for help. I have no answer. He said, I was very bad, I blocked him because he didn´t agree in the article above. But I have no e-mail from him, no message... maybe because he had already the spam telling we are fanatic who block all the people that disagree (as you know, it´s false, only two days, ago another sysop and me discuss anout an historical sentence).
I´m afraid, he isn´t going to answer the e-mail I´m writting now.--es:User:FAR
- every day, I´m more sure he is a troll and a vandal. He is a spammer (writes disturbing messages to user who are not interested, anly for give as bad image). After I have read again, all, I can say you he is wrong. He says, I blocked by one thing, I did it for other. Excuse my English
