Continental Navy

Two ships of the Continental Navy have been named Enterprise:

  • USS Enterprise (1775) (18 May 1775 – 7 July 1777), the first American ship to bear the name, she served on Lake Champlain
  • Enterprise (1776) (20 December 1776 – February 1777), the second ship to bear this name, she served on Chesapeake Bay

United States Navy

Six ships of the United States Navy have been named Enterprise:

  • USS Enterprise (1799) (17 December 1799 – 9 July 1823), the third ship to bear this name, was a schooner, and fired the first shots in the First Barbary War against the Tripolitanian ship Tripoli
  • USS Enterprise (1831) (15 December 1831 – 24 June 1844), the fourth ship to bear this name, was also a schooner
  • USS Enterprise (1874) (16 March 1877 – 1 October 1909), the fifth ship to bear this name, was a screw sloop
  • Enterprise (SP-790) (1917 – 1919), the sixth ship to bear this name, was a non-commissioned motor yacht serving in the Second Naval District during World War I
  • USS Enterprise (CV-6) (12 May 1938 – 17 February 1947), the seventh ship to bear this name, was a Yorktown-class aircraft carrier and the most-decorated U.S. Navy vessel of World War II
  • USS Enterprise (CVN-65) (25 November 1961 – Present), the eighth ship to bear this name, is a unique design. It is a nuclear powered aircraft carrier, the first nuclear carrier in the world

Other ships

  • SS Flying Enterprise, was built in 1944 and commissioned as the SS Cape Kumukaki (C1-B). She was sold in 1947 to the Isbrandtsen Company, and her name was changed to the Flying Enterprise
  • VSS Enterprise, the first commercial spaceship being constructed by Virgin Galactic
