[edit] UW-Madison claims
I made [1] as the statement from UW-Madison in the reference [2] only includes two short quotations without context and somewhat confusing. I'm not sure but I don't believe they deny the gene they isolated originated from a plant grown in the Gabon [3]. From what I can tell, their view is that they simply isolated a gene from a plant, the whole process they have invented is their own. And since the gene was not patented nor are there any protections against this sort of thing, they have done nothing wrong and owe nothing to the Gabon where they plant came from. While this is obviously controversial and many people (including me) find it somewhat disgusting, it's important to recognise that they are not, from what I can tell, denying where the gene came from, simply suggesting that it is irrelevant (which it is based on current laws) Nil Einne (talk) 12:44, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
