[edit] Carnaval in Pernambuco?

I'm not the best one to write the article, since I have only been in Recife for a little under three years, but it is astonishing that there is no discussion of the carnaval in Pernambuco. It is arguably the most traditional (i.e., least changed over the years) of the three principal carnavais in Brazil. I can write a little bit about Maracatu and Frevo and their places in the culture, and about the differences between Recife and Olinda, but I would prefer to let a Brazilian who knows more than I do write it. Anyone?

Okay people, I'm a Brazilian that has lived abroad, and there is a crutial piece of information missing here: Carnival is a turist based event. Yes, in early says it was not 'profane' as the article says; it's only so nowadays because it attracts foreigners, making turisrm high that time of the year.

But where in Brazil did you/do you live? I live in Recife, and while a lot of tourists come to Recife and Olinda every year for carnaval, the carnaval itself is enormously important to the local culture. That's culture, not economy. The money comes from tourists, but tourists don't play in the blocos or the nações. Zerologic 08:03, 27 February 2006 (UTC)

I am from Recife, where I lived until about two years ago. I can try to extend the section about Carnaval in Pernambuco a bit, but the picture shown there is absolutely horrible and unrepresentative of our carnaval! Unfortunately I don't have a better one, but I'm pretty sure we can find some who has one. I actually do have a few very nice pics, but I they are not mine, and I don't know how the owners would like it if we used them here. Any suggestions? - —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.226.112.13 (talkcontribs)

I added a better picture, which depicts a more populated scene. Hopefully this is an improvement over the abandoned block. If you could expand the section about Carnival in Pernambuco that would be excellent as well. - AKeen 14:25, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Category

I am thinking of making a Category for Brazilian Carnival-related articles. Any thoughts? - AKeen 21:09, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

I have now created a new category: "Brazilian Carnival" - AKeen 16:15, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Bahiacarnival3.jpg

Image:Bahiacarnival3.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Merge

I agree with the merge of Rio Carnival and Brazilian Carnival. I am from Rio, and I think it would give the reader a broader idea of Brazil's carnival and cultural diversity if people see that carnival is different in every region... --Pinnecco (talk) 10:22, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I agree as well.--200.186.96.217 (talk) 18:25, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
