To anonymous editor.

Thanks for your contributions to this page. However I can find no reference to a David Wong who attended Brasenose and was an engineer and philanthropist. Please could you add more details to this page or to Dave Wong if this person is in fact worthy of being listed here. Rowing in the Brasenose 2nd VIII probably doesn't count.

I have reverted your changes as while some of the minor changes were good most of your new text was simply copied directly from the Brasenose College web page, violating copyright. Jonathan A Jones 07:43, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Archer

His status is unclear (and his own accounts are notoriously fictitious). After one of his bankruptcies, he was offered a room in College by the Principal, a friend of his. He may have enrolled for a PGCE (though, as he had no first degree, this is dubious in one sense or another), but certainly didn't leave with any qualification. Whether he counts as a former student is pretty unclear. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 09:36, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

Archer was a student at Brasenose for 3 years after which he was awarded an Oxford University endorsed qualification ( a diploma, not a degree) - the title of this section is "notable former students". He is notable, and he was a student as Brasenose. Either he is reinserted, or else the title is changed to reflect a list of only those sitting for Oxford degrees (whether obtained or not).--jrleighton 16:34, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
Could you provide a citation for this claim (not using Archer as a source, of course)? --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:27, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Notable Former Students

This list is a tad long, I think It needs moving or tidying up. It looks messy

T.roome 19:58, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

It's not overly long by comparison to other colleges' alum. lists but it certainly needs something more than the name only treatment. Dates, subject, or 'known for' (English broadcaster etc). If it is moved to another page, please note it with the Oxford University Project first as it may help define consensus on naming of Oxford alumni pages.--Alf melmac 07:16, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Some observations

Why is Simon Schama on the page? (under see-also) I can't see any reference between him and bnc! Please update either page for his status to qualify.

Also I'm not sure I agree with the statement "Although not wealthy by comparison to other Oxbridge Colleges" ...It is 9th out of the 36 oxford collegescitation here which isn't that bad, and that statement sorta implies is one of the poorest.

Some more, the fortress abingdon road link is broken, could we put more information onto the page? such as something about the frewin annex, or about the different quads etc. and maybe some more facts about the college itself in relation to others, eg guarantees accommodation to nearly all students. Perhaps we could put on another picture, which didn't pretend that the Radcliffe camera was part of the college. Also, nearly all the text is under the History heading, when some of it has nothing to do with the history of the college, like about the arts festival etc. Shouldn't we have more headings for different bits?

Sorry if i sound like I'm moaning! Its very good, I just think it could be better, and that we should strive to make it the best wiki of all the colleges! Better than Jesus college's page, which is the only college rated above a B... So thought I'd make a few pointers. (User:jcoatz)

...apart from T'Oriel's article which is featured status.--Alf melmac 09:38, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
As you can see I've started work! Hope to add more photos and history over the summer. Jonathan A Jones 17:06, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
