Brazilian Girls are a band from New York City known for their eclectic blend of electronic dance music with tango, chansons, house and lounge styles. The band has described their sound as "melting pop".[citation needed] None of the members are actually from Brazil and the only female member is lead singer Sabina Sciubba. Didi Gutman plays keyboards for the band, Aaron Johnston plays the drums and Jesse Murphy plays the bass.

The band released their self titled debut album in 2005. Their second album, entitled Talk to La Bomb, was released in September 2006, their third record is expected in early 2008.

[edit] History

The daughter of Italian and German parents, Sciubba was born in Rome and grew up in Munich and Nice. Growing up, she learned to speak German, Spanish, French, Italian and English, languages which she regularly incorporates into her songs (all five languages are featured on their debut album).

Sciubba recorded two jazz albums - You Don't Know What Love Is with pianist Chris Anderson and Meet Me in London with guitarist Antonio Forcione.

The band itself formed in 2003, while jamming at a New York club. Sciubba described her meeting with the boys of Brazilian Girls as "love at first sight and it moved as fast as the Autobahn."[citation needed] While playing a weekly gig, the band wrote many of the original songs that would appear on their debut album.

On February 1, 2005, the band released their self-titled debut. The band made their television debut on The Jimmy Kimmel Show in March of that year.

In October 2005, the band became one of the first artists to release a video album through iTunes, "Brazilian Girls: Live in NYC.",[citation needed] While the song "Jique" was used to advertise the Blackberry in 2007.[citation needed]
