Deutsche Bahn - Stations in Germany | |
Braunschweig Hauptbahnhof (usually translated from German as Braunschweig Central Station, short form: Braunschweig Hbf) is the Hauptbahnhof of the German city Braunschweig. It is about 1.5km to the southeast the city center and was opened on 1 October 1960, replacing the old passenger station on the southern edge of the old town.
[edit] History
In the 1930s work had been carried out to reroute the main line so that the old terminal station could be replaced with a through station. Increasing traffic after World War II period made the need for a modern through main station more urgent. It was decided to build a new through station at the edge of the city at its current location next to the Viewegs Garten.
