Brandbu

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brandbu is a village in the municipality of Gran, Norway. The surrounding area was formerly a separate municipality, having been separated from Gran in 1897 but reunited in 1962. The previous name of Brandbu was ”Augedals bro”, and Brandbu is still often referred to as ”Brua”.

Augedalsbro Augedalsbro or Åvedalsbro is an ancient bridge-head, creating a crossing over the Augedals river (Now called Vigga) to the former posting station. The new and old road to Bergen met here, and Høgkosveien went from here to Toten. The bridge-head was however moved to Rosendal, which is a bit further up the river, while the posting station continued to be at Augedals river. Augedalsbro (Augedals river) is the subject of the painting "Augedals bro" made by Gerhard Munthe in 1897
