Brampton Hut
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Brampton Hut is the name of the roundabout on the junction between the A1 and A14 road west of Huntingdon.
The A1 passes over the A14 with grade separated access to the A14 via Brampton Hut Roundabout. The traffic traveling both east and west on the A14 has to navigate Brampton Hut Roundabout either to join the A1 southbound or continue on the A14. Traffic coming from the East and wishing to join the A1 Northbound however, continue along a spur of the A14 which feeds directly onto the A1(M) at Alconbury.
Traffic lights were added in 2006[1] to attempt to reduce the traffic jams on the A14 entering the junction from either side.
The junction was named after the Brampton Hut hotel, which was so called as it looked like a wooden hut on stilts. Alongside the hotel is a large BP Connect filling station and truck park, a Brewer's Fayre restaurant and Premier Inn (formerly Travel Inn and then Premier Travel Inn), and a McDonalds drive-thru.
