BRAEBURN MOMBASA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Braeburn Mombasa International School ethos reads: “Our school is a community and we recognize that each individual is important and has a valuable contribution to make towards the quality of life enjoyed by the people within it. We continually stress the importance of honesty, trust, fairness and self-discipline, mutual respect and self-esteem. We endeavour to encourage and praise good behaviour and help all children to appreciate that this is the normal expectation.”

One of the Braeburn Schools Kenya Limited schools, Braeburn Mombasa International School [1]is a co-educational, multi-cultural, international weekly boarding school teaching the British National Curriculum to children from Early Years (nursery) up to and including A-Level (18 years). Situated on Kenya's coast at Shanzu, just north of Mombasa, the school has a 9-acre garden site where large, airy classrooms are set in palm tree-shaded lawns.

Facilities include spacious, bright and airy classrooms and buildings; dedicated Early Years, Primary and Secondary sections; well-stocked and up-to-date library; a music room; an Information Communication Technology (ICT) room; a science laboratory; an art room; playing fields; basketball / tennis courts; a 25-metre swimming pool. Textbooks and stationery are provided. Students have the choice of taking school meals or bringing a packed-lunch.

All teachers provide for a range of needs in their classrooms. To help class teachers provide for differing needs within an individual class, there is a learning support team that works with individual children or small groups within a class or year group. Parents are encouraged to work with the department, and are kept informed of their child's progress through regular reports.

Lunchtime and after school activities vary seasonally and cover a wide range of sporting, musical and creative activities. Some activities involve weekend commitments, and children are taken out on educational visits as part and parcel of their work. These are not optional and are an integral part of the children's learning.

The School actively encourages an open and honest home-school partnership. Apart from parent-teacher interviews, curriculum evenings are arranged throughout the year explaining aspects of the curriculum. Through newsletters, policies are explained and parents kept informed of curriculum developments as they happen.

Children travel to school by car or may take advantage of one of the school’s Safety Buses. When there are after school activities, there is a late bus service with a limited route on offer.

The School Nurse provides first aid for minor injuries and takes responsibility for administering prescribed medicines. Braeburn Mombasa International School is covered by medical insurance for school trips, both local and farther afield.
