Bradlee Van Pelt (nicknamed "B.V.P.") (born July 3, 1980 in Owosso, Michigan) is a free agent quarterback in the National Football League. He transferred to Colorado State University from Michigan State University. He is the son of former NFL linebacker Brad Van Pelt.

A very physical player, Van Pelt dedicates himself to developing himself in the weight room and in the film room. On his first official snap in the NFL, Van Pelt took a shot gun snap from inside the ten yard line and ran into the endzone against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Van Pelt has been criticised for his "run first, then throw" mentality. He silenced quite a few critics his senior year finding his favorite target David Anderson often, and throwing for nearly 3,000 yards and over 60% completion rate.[citation needed] However, he came within 100 yards in passing and rushing of becoming the only collegiate quarterback to pass for 3,000 yards and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season.

[edit] Professional career path

In the 2006 NFL draft, the Broncos drafted Vanderbilt quarterback Jay Cutler. In training camp, Cutler moved ahead of Van Pelt on the depth chart making Van Pelt the third string quarterback, behind Jake Plummer and Cutler. He was released by the Denver Broncos on 2 September 2006.

Van Pelt was then signed by the Houston Texans on November 27, 2006 to be their third-string quarterback, brought in by his former coach in Denver, Gary Kubiak. He was released by the Texans on August 27, 2007. He now plays in the "Pub League" Southern Union Soccer League's (SUSL) Division II in Santa Barbara, CA for Press Room FC United. The SUSL is a recreational league. For more information on the Southern Union Soccer League (SUSL) go to http://suslsoccer.net/board.html[citation needed] .

His soccer team, Press Room FC United, lost in the semi-finals to the SB Islanders 2-1 on May 4, 2008. Bradlee did not score a goal and received a yellow card. Press Room FC United is run by Darren and Angela Phillips. The team is sponsored by the local English Pub, The Press Room. They get their name from FC United of Manchester, a fan based breakaway club from Manchester United Football Club, widely recognized as the best team in the world.

It is presumed that he may return to the NFL as a safety or play quarterback in the Canadian football league[1].
