Bradford D. “Brad” Smart is an author, lecturer, and business consultant on the subject of Topgrading – recruiting, hiring, coaching, promoting, and managing high performers.

With son Geoff, Brad created Topgrading, an assessment methodology using unusually thorough chronological interviews and other best practices.

Brad was born in Hartford Connecticut in 1944, and graduated from Miami (Ohio) University (BA Psychology) and Purdue University (MS, Ph.D. Industrial Psychology.)

In 1971 Brad started Smart & Associates, Inc., a consultancy based in the Chicago area.

He and his wife Mary have a son Geoff (CEO of ghSMART, a major Topgrading assessment, coaching, and training company) and a daughter Kate (a family therapist) and five grandchildren.
