Bradfield Combust

Bradfield Combust is a village in Suffolk, England.According to Eilert Ekwall the meaning of the village name is "the wide fold". The Domesday Book records the population of Bradfied Combust in 1086 to be 76 including those resident in Bradfield St Clare and Bradfield St George. The name Bradfield Combust is said to have derived from an incident in 1327, when an angry mob burned down Bradfield Hall, the home of the Abbot of Bury St Edmunds (source "The English", Jeremy Paxman 1998).
