[edit] Background
Brad Carter came to town in 1998, after almost hitting Camille Bennett with his car. She told him she had cancer, but he forced her to face her fears. Brad ended up constructing the old church in Oakdale. He was shocked when Lucinda Walsh dropped the name "Snyder", but he denied knowing the name. His secret, however, was that he did not only knew that name, he also was a Snyder. For several years, Brad has gone by the name Carter, so no one would recognize the name. He returned to the Snyder Farm to find Julia Lindsay, the fiancé of his brother Jack Snyder, who showed up pretty fast. His hate towards Brad was obvious and soon it showed why. Years earlier, Brad had struck and killed their father while drunk driving, which Jack never forgave him for.
Brad decide to take the name Snyder again. He joined Lucinda's company and had a brief flirtation with the older woman. He also had a fling with Camille, but he had more interest in a discovery he and Molly Conlan McKinnon made. They found some big money buried in the ground. They wanted to keep it, but since it was stolen, they had to be careful. So, they left Oakdale, but Molly spent the money to soon and they were caught and brought back to Oakdale. Camille bailed Brad out and then told Jack Brad's big secret. On he night that their father died, Brad wasn't the one driving, their mother was. Jack refused to believe this, but when their mother Dolores came to town and he saw her alcoholic problem, he wondered it was all true. The same day, Dolores confessed what she had done and Jack showed respect towards his brother for confessing a crime he didn't do, just to protect their mother. Brad then asked Camille to marry him, but she refused.
He then started to flirt with Molly's cousin, Carly Tenney. What he loved about her was that she loved money just as much as he did. He was thrilled to hear that, if the plan worked, by the end of 1998, Carly would receive $ 50 000 000 from her sister. All she had to do was get married and give birth to a baby that was hers and her husbands. Carly was already pregnant from her husband John Dixon, so basically, all they had to do was wait. Then, Brad overheard Molly say that Carly was not pregnant with John, but with Hal Munsons baby! Brad took advantage of this and as soon Carly was divorced, he blackmailed her into marrying him. Carly did as he said, but later divorced him and gave a few million dollars to keep his mouth shut. Brad did not keep his promise and soon, Carly was the most hated person in town. Brad was second on the list, so, after having a one-night stand with Rosanna Cabot, Brad skipped town in June 1999.
On January 19th 2007, Jack Snyder found that some one broke into the Snyder Farm. He pulled out his gun, only to hear some laughter and a cigar smoking Brad showed up. Jack was shocked to see his brother again and his first thought was that he was in trouble and needed money. Brad reassured him that everything was fine. He made himself at home and didn't waist any time getting into the good grace of Vienna Hyatt, a wealthy woman who was also staying there. Brad pretended to be a wealthy man and an important television executive. When Jack heard from Kim that she was looking for some one at WOAK, he volunteered for Brad. Brad took Vienna to "his" office at WOAK, where they made love. They were discovered by Katie Peretti, who was a talk host at WOAK and already clashed with Brad before. She thought he would get fired soon, but the director was under the impression of their chemistry and made Brad Katie's co-host.
Forced to work together, Brad was trying to make the best of it. He came up with a few pretty good ideas, but Katie was not interested. All she wanted was for Brad to quit the job, but he refused. Brad's ego was bruised when Vienna dumped him and got engaged to Henry Coleman, accidentally Katie's ex-husband and best friend. When Henry caught Brad and Vienna in an intimate position, he canceled the wedding. Despite everyone assertion that nothing happened, Henry thought this was best. Brad tried to talk him out of this, but Henry refused to listen to him. Hurt by Henry's action, Vienna came on to Brad, who carefully rejected her because "you belong to Henry". Brad and Katie were softening towards each other and Brad discovered he was developing feelings for her. Another bruised ego came when he found out that Katie had started a relationship with his brother Jack. Things got more complicated when Jack ánd Brads ex-wife Carly came back to town, who wanted Jack back. She was shocked to not only see that Brad was back, but also to hear that Jack and Katie were a couple now. Together with Brad, who had his eyes set on Katie, they made up several plans to break the new couple up, but all plans either failed or backfired. At one point, Brad realized that it was useless. If Katie is happy when she is with Jack, then so it be. Carly couldn't believe what Brad said, but he was done sabotaging the couple.
While Brad was already thirty something, it was not until then when he finally grew up. He became a good friend to Katie as well to Carly, which caused a lot of trouble when Katie said he could not speak to Carly anymore. Carly however, confided in Brad that she had a brain tumor, and only several months to live. Brad's feelings were hurt when Jack chose Holden Snyder to be his best man at his wedding with Katie, instead of Brad. And while everybody is busy with themselves and trying to keep all their secrets from each other, Brad is the one stuck in between and has to play the grownup for once.
Months past and Katie and Jack got married. However, soon after the wedding, Brad told Jack that Carly was dying. Jack left Katie at their house and rushed to the hospital, where Carly was being treated. Jack promised her that he would make her last months more comfortable. Brad noticed that Katie felt alone and abandoned, so he tried to cheer her up, in which he succeeded. Barely a month after the wedding, Katie had her marriage with Jack annulled and told him to do whatever he wants. Brad then discovered that Carly was misdiagnosed and that she wasn't dying after all. Carly forced him to keep his mouth shut, this way they would both get what they want. Brad doubted it and he was right. Katie discovered the truth and first, hated Brad for what he had done. She later realized that he wasn't the one to blame and forgave him. Brad spent more time with Katie and learned of her desperate wish of becoming a mother. In a crazy mood, he bought the house of Katie's dreams and offered to become the father of her children. The two slept together several times and even when Brad noticed Katie's jealousy when she saw Jack and Carly, he still stuck with her. Now these days, Brad tries to convince himself that Katie is with him because she really wants to be with him, despite he knows inside that it's all because of her wish for children. He ends of marring Katie.Later he finds out about his daughter Liberty.
