Brachyglottis is a genus of flowering plant in the Asteraceae family; a genus which has existed since November 29, 1775[2][3] when Johann Reinhold Forster & Georg Forster created the genus with this name from the Greek words brachus meaning short[4] and glottis meaning "the vocal apparatus of the larynx"[5] or tongue[6] referring to the size of the ray florets.[7]

It includes the following species, many that have been reclassified from the genus Senecio in 1977 and 1978:[8][9]

  • Brachyglottis compacta (Kirk) B. Nord. -- Wairarapa groundsel or the piecrust plant
    • Senecio compactus Kirk
