Brace Paine

Brace Paine, also known as Nathan Howdeshell, is the guitarist of American band The Gossip. He is from Arkansas, and now resides in Portland, Oregon. He DJed under the name "DJ Nightschool" but changed his name in May of 2007 to "The Chain". He also runs a record label (Fast Weapons).[1]

His heroes include Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth.[2]

Unlike the other two members of The Gossip (Beth Ditto and Hannah Blilie), Brace is heterosexual.[3]

His previous bands include Die Monitr Batss, A.S.T., Deep Jail and Xeaxx Xeaxx; he has also collaborated with soundartist John Wiese.[4]

His art has been shown in London, New York, Montreal, Portland, Sweden and Arkansas. His "mini novelettes" (or "warm novelettes") have been reviewed in Vice, i-D and various other high end publications. His subject matter tends to dwell on the dark and funny side of life.
