Sounds good :) What area of Australia are you looking to work on? Orderinchaos 03:14, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi, i didnt realize you were online now. I deleted my post as i think it was placed in wrong location. I am interested in doing features on all of australia, and did live in WA for 15 years, but am now in Queensland. I also do music trivia. Boylo 03:23, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
I will check out those links you gave me as i want to learn how to write articles correctly for posting new entries. Boylo 03:27, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
All sorted
Especially with subjects that require some level of local knowledge to comprehend notability, sometimes that sort of thing does happen - don't forget most editors are of US origin and comparatively young, and there are a shocking number of vanity articles as well so people sometimes get into the mindset that anything they don't recognise and can't instantly find must be a vanity or non-notable article. I've removed the tag after linking up Billy Thorpe, Lobby Loyde, Buffalo and the music festival, and made clear that WEA is Warner (i.e. a very major label - an unusual feat for an Australian band of that time). The relevant guideline is WP:BAND which this article appears to meet. You did the right thing dropping a note on my page - another place is WP:AWNB (Australian notice board) if it's a topic likely to be known to many Australians. If it's an article about a particular state or a historical event, the WikiProjects may be more helpful (there's a list of them on the AWNB page). Orderinchaos 05:04, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Australian literature
Heya. Great to see you've signed up for the new OzLit project. We've still got some work to do before everything's all pretty and functional but I'm glad to see someone interested in sci-fi, cos Australia has been rocking that genre in recent years and there are lots of related articles to work on. Drop me a line if there's anything I can help you with. xx baby_ifritah 06:56, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- Just some useful stuff for anything that you're working on. Quite a few of the sci fi novels have problems with overlong plot summaries, in-universe perspective, and not enough real-world analysis. This policy and this guideline might be useful:
-
- What wikipedia is not (esp. see indiscriminate collection of info - plot summaries)
- Writing about fiction
-
- Useful templates are:
- * {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/ArticleTemplate}} - article template for novel articles
- * {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/InfoboxCode}} - infobox for novel articles
- * {{Template:Infobox Writer}} - infobox for writer's bios
-
- well, useful imo, anyway. xx baby_ifritah 03:12, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

I've been working on a design, but have to wait for one of the administrator's to adjust it because the template is locked to us plebs. :) it's on the list!

I know of no such project - however Novels could very easily add a new "Task Force" to manage such efforts. Are you up for that I think it could easily get quiet a lot of support. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 07:59, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

- I have spent a good portion of my life doing the sort of research that you did to discover the WBG information and although i often came away empty handed the times when something was discovered was enough to keep me at it. However i am now involved in a project, two really, where my opinion and original research are prized rather then being considered to be four letter words, so i'm not contributing much at wikipedia. I do still have 1000 pages on my watch list and follow them. Old habits are hard to break. Carptrash 13:39, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

- If an article's at the wrong name, if you have the button "move" up top (between "history" and "watch"), you should be able to move it yourself - go to the article, click on that, then just type the correct name. Then once moved, click on "What links here" and make sure anything that links to the old name is changed to the new one. If you've got under a certain number of edits they've actually disabled move - if that's the case let me know and I can move them. Orderinchaos 05:55, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, and fixed the name, it said "The (PAGENAME) Portal", but of course (PAGENAME) already included the word "The". Orderinchaos 05:57, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

- No worries :) Categories are a special case, they can't be moved - you have to actually create a new one with the right name, then fix each of the articles in the old one so they go into the new cat. We had the same problem over at Category:Culture in Perth, Western Australia (which was relocated from Perth, Western Australia culture). Orderinchaos 07:50, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Ok will do that then. Thx again Boylo 07:51, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
Commercial use of Image:Author Ian Irvine.jpg
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Author Ian Irvine.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Author Ian Irvine.jpg is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3).

Welcome to Novels WikiProject
Hi, and welcome to the Novels WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to fiction books often referred to as "Novels".
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated quite regularly. You can watch it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WikiProject_Novels_announcements}} there.
While you are updating your userpage, don't forget our userbox {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Outreach/User WPNOVELS}}. - The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but other methods are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines / template outlines some things to include.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the members, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 13:27, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

is luring the music freaks - but I can see almost a life long thing for the oz lit - do you need any further advice at this stage? SatuSuro 12:12, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah SaturSuro, still lots to do for Oz Lit, seems to be a lot for only a few of us, so am always busy there. I think i may just stick with Lit for awhile to not spread myself too thin. Later on maybe i can help out as a supporter.Boylo 12:19, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Queensland meetups
From reading the Meetup/Brisbane page it would appear that the first attempt at organising a Brisbane meetup fizzled out about six months ago. If you are interested in getting a meetup organised could I suggest that you leave a message on the Talk pages of participants in the Brisbane project and Wikipedians in Queensland, but check their contributions to make sure they are active members. Good luck. - Cuddy Wifter 03:44, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Nathan Gibbs, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Leuko 00:04, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Shantaram Novel small.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Shantaram Novel small.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 07:09, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

What they mean is that the second section of the article, listing the albums and tracks on them, is basically just a list. Not sure how this would be done better, but that's why it's there. And no worries re adoption - I'd actually forgotten to change the thing on your page, and someone reminded me :) 00:11, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

You might be able to make use of that image as it's a magazine cover, using the {{Magazine_cover}} notice on the image description page, and by adding a fair use rationale. -- Longhair\talk 03:45, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your welcome
It is great hearing from experienced members. I am enjoying finding my way around and am committed to Aussie Literature and Film (in particular). I'm slowly working out how to do things, but if you see anything I do that I could do differently or better, please let me know Sterry2607 10:44, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks Boylo. I think I had come across that article in my early travels here as a registered user but had forgotten it. Thanks for pointing me to it and for pointing me to the categories. Must admit that I do often look at the categories on articles to work out what to do for myself. Re a Cinema Australia project...I'll see how I go. I'm an easy does it sort of person but am keen to get involved in things when I feel comfortable Sterry2607 11:20, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
Aus List Articles
Boylo - thank you for the welcome to the Aust Lit project. I read your comments to and from Sterry2607. It will be good to have some guidance and I hope to do some useful things. I am not very sure what the "projects" in wikipedia do, but I was hoping to get used to editing and eventually build up to a new page. Please tell me if there are sites you recommend for style etc. Regards Stellar 10:59, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Style?
Boylo - I have read the style guides and liked the examples in the "in-universe" notes. It was like reading a novel through the looking glass - most entertaining. My current focus is on tidying up text, organising forgotten/lost articles and adding links and references where none exist. Please keep sending me the breadcrumbs to follow, regards Stellar 11:37, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Have a good break
Sorry to hear that you're leaving us. Enjoy the break and make sure that you do come back. —Moondyne 06:11, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Welcome back
Glad you decided to stay :) I know good contributors who don't log on for weeks or months at times, then will come back, make 7 or 8 good edits, or maybe just have a day where they can write up an article or whatever, then for ages you won't see them again. I don't think there's any expectation that by being registered one has to be regularly active - I think having contributors who *are* more in the real world is a good thing actually, helps to balance up against some of the people who practically live here and may have issues with perspective. As a uni student I have more free time now than I probably will after mid-next year when I'm fully qualified. Good luck :) Orderinchaos 03:48, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
