"Boys & Girls" was Ayumi Hamasaki's ninth single, released on July 14, 1999. Hamasaki's first Maxi single, it was also her first certified million-seller. In its first week of release, it ranked at number two after Ami Suzuki's "Be Together" claimed the top spot. The following week, however, it was able to top the charts.

In 1999, Ayumi became a spokeswoman for AUBE, a cosmetics compagny. Boys & Girls was used in a lipstick commercial for the mark as the theme song. Ayu appeared in the TV ad.

The single debut at #2 with over 260,000 copies sold in its first week of release. However, within its second week "Boys & Girls" reached the #1 position and stayed there for two consecutive weeks. By the end of its chart run the single sold sold over a million copies.[1] It was the 11th best-selling single of 1999[2] and is the 221th best-selling single of all time in Japan.[3]
