[edit] Music

Bowery Electric's music defies easy classification. The group earned critical acclaim for experimentation across several genres and mixing elements of ambient, drone, electronic and experimental music with '70's soul, dub, disco, experimental rock and hip hop. They were one of the first American bands to perform live with a laptop, mixer and sampler on stage alongside bass, drums, and guitars.

[edit] Current status

Although not officially disbanded, Bowery Electric has been in hiatus since the release of Lushlife in 2000. Both members have surfaced independently with new material, but only sporadically. From 2001 to 2002, Chandler assumed the alias Metrotech and produced remixes for the indie rock bands Calla[1] and Mercova.[2] Schwendener also began recording under the pseudonym Echostar. In 2003, she released the downtempo album Sola[3] for Shadow Records, a sub-label of Instinct Records.

As of April 2008, no official word has been made regarding a potential Metrotech album, a follow-up to Sola, or any continued work under the Bowery Electric banner.
