Bowen Family Homes is a family-owned business founded by Rudy Bowen in 1969. He began by building one new home in the Atlanta suburbs of Gwinnett County, Georgia. Within five years, Rudy Bowen was building 50 homes a year. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Rudy's sons-in-law Mike Phelps and Tip Cape, along with his own son David Bowen, joined the company. Today, Bowen Family Homes builds 1,200 homes a year in Florida, Texas and metropolitan Atlanta. In 2006, Bowen Family Homes closed 1,728 homes in these three states, with a total housing revenue of $358 million.

In 2007, the company was named Georgia Family Business of the year among medium sized companies by Georgia Trend and the Cox Family Enterprise Center at Kennesaw State University.
