The paper began August 20, 1900, and the centenary of the paper was celebrated in "Echoes of the Century," a book published by the paper in 2000 that chronicles the history and reportage of a century. [2]
In October 2006, EDF Energy London and South of England Media Awards awarded The Echo the title of Daily Newspaper of the Year. In the same competition, the paper also won Columnist of the Year and Environmental Journalist of the Year for the work put forth by Faith Eckersall and Natalie Bruckner, respectively.[3]
