Bourne Civic Society

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bourne Civic Society is a voluntary organization concerned with the development of the town and community of Bourne, Lincolnshire, in the past, present and future.

It was founded in 1977, at a time of a rapid expansion of the town which seems set to continue beyond 2006. Its aim is to express the need to carry the good features of the place from the past into the future, while improving on the less good. This it does by drawing attention to them and offering suggestions as to the best course.

The society arranges talks and visits but its most readily visible work has gone into its heritage centre in Baldock's Mill. There, it has set up displays dealing with numerous aspects of the town, its economy and its personalities. The two most developed sections feature Raymond Mays and Charles Worth, together with their achievements in motor racing and dress design respectively.
