Bounce is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by John Weidman. It premiered in a workshop in 1999 under the title Wise Guys. Directed by Sam Mendes, it was produced at the New York Theatre Workshop starring Victor Garber and Nathan Lane. [1]

Harold Prince directed the musical when it premiered on June 20, 2003 at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago (interrupted by a lawsuit by Scott Rudin).[2] The musical also played at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in the fall of 2003 but was never mounted in New York. Richard Kind and Howard McGillin were featured as brothers Addison and Wilson Mizner, with Jane Powell, as the brothers' mother and Michele Pawk as a dance-hall girl.[3]

[edit] Plot

Bounce is the story of Addison and Wilson Mizner's adventures across America in the early 20th century, from the Gold rush in Alaska to Florida.[4]

[edit] Subsequent activity

A private reading of Bounce was done at the Public Theater on February 6, 2006.[5] It was reported that Eric Schaeffer directed, with Richard Kind and Bernadette Peters among the cast.

In an interview, John Weidman confirmed that Bounce would be produced at the Public Theater in 2008.[6] In an interview with the Denver Post (September 15, 2007), Sondheim was said to be putting the "final touches" on the latest version of Bounce, which will be performed under the auspices of the 2008 New York Shakespeare Festival.[7] John Doyle has confirmed that he will direct the musical, which he said will open at the Public Theatre in the Fall 2008.[8]
