[edit] SoxBot IV
tasks • contribs • count • sul • logs • page moves • block user • block log • flag log • flag bot
Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic
Programming Language(s): Python, using pywikipedia
Function Summary: Automatic clearing of the sandbox.
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Continuous
Edit rate requested: 12 edits every 12 hours (see comment below), at 5 epm.
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N
Function Details: OverlordQBot usually cleans the sandbox, but I have been seeing that it can stop for days at a time. It does not happen rarely, it actually happens a few times a month. I think that a more reliable bot could be used for sandbox clearing. I will use pywikipedia's clean_sandbox.py to clear the sandbox. I may soon make it run on the Introduction too. (by the way, I have been told by a few people that it is a good idea.) It will clean the sandbox every six hours, or immediately if it does not have the header.
[edit] Discussion
- I don't see any issue with approving this task. Redundancy == good. :) SQLQuery me! 07:02, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- One hour is a bit much imo, and also contradictory to both the HTML comment and the template which both say 12 hours. Q T C 07:49, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not a fan of the idea of it clearing as soon as the header is removed. I can imagine a vandal-bot getting into an edit fight and rendering the page useless (from ECs) to human editors. Once an hour should be enough. MBisanz talk 08:21, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- I won't follow that script fully, I will have to make some modifications (e.g. allowing non-admin shutoff, like I do with all my other scripts). I was going to implement the immediate cleaning, but I don't have to now. I was also following what OverlordQBot was doing (6 hours), but I accidentally typed one. - Are you also planning to clean {{x1}} to {{x9}}, and {{Template sandbox}}? If so, please can you put noincludes around the header? (This was requested in various places (Template talk:Template sandbox is one I can remember at the moment), but can only be implemented by changing the sandbox-cleaning bots.) --ais523 14:39, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Oops, that reminded me I forgot to finish adding those heh. Q T C 17:57, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think I can implement those pages as well. So what I am requesting: Clearing of the Sandbox, Introduction, X1-9, and Template sandbox every 12 hours. That fine? Soxred93 | talk bot 00:12, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

How's this coming along? SQLQuery me! 22:20, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Looks like it went fine to me. Approved. SQLQuery me! 02:40, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
