[edit] SatyrBot 3
tasks • contribs • count • sul • logs • page moves • block user • block log • flag log • flag bot
Operator: SatyrTN (talk | contribs)
Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic
Programming Language(s): PHP
Function Summary: Adding templates and information to city/town/village articles based on information already in that article.
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Probably two or three one-time-runs.
Edit rate requested: 10 edits per minutes
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y
Function Details: WP:ILLINOIS has requested adding {{Geobox}} to the cities/towns/villages in Illinois. This requires scraping some information from the article and adding it to parameters in the template, which will be added to the top of the article. Full details can be found at User_talk:SatyrTN#Geobox_Project.
SatyrBot has recently been re-written to use api.php. I've had a couple of hiccups, but it's working very well. All the tasks SatyrBot has run have been on talk pages only, so this is a request to start working in article-space.
[edit] Discussion
Considering the problems that this bot has had in the past and your recent development, I'd like to see this edit rate reduced to six edits per minute in production. And, as usual, it is to run at an edit rate of two edits per minute in trial per Wikipedia:Bot policy. Approved for trial (50 edits). — madman bum and angel 19:37, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I'll be running a test on 50 in the next day or so (2/min) and will report here. That was quick! ;) -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 05:44, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

- Ran a series of 34 - [1] is the history.
- Two things to report:
- It went faster than I told it to - ~7/min. I'm going to have to do some testing to see why it didn't listen to me :)
- It's not dealing with character encoding right. For instance: [2] - the Italian inter-wiki link didn't translate. And the Portuguese inter-wikilinks on almost all the articles in this group seem to have had a hidden character in them. More testing to see what's up with the whole encoding issue.
- When I have something to report about these, I'll mention here. And those fixes will come before running any more articles. :) -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 06:49, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- No problem. This is what the trial is for. — madman bum and angel 15:22, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- I've fixed the two errors reported - the timing issue wasn't being checked (but is now), and the encoding was simply a matter of setting the cURL option CURLOPT_ENCODING to "", to accept all encodings. I'd like to run another test set of 50, if that's okay. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 03:57, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

(outdent) Ran a trial of 50 articles for WP:Illinois. Bot generated log of what it did is found here - note that items marked "Processed" are where the bot actually edited. See also Special:Contributions/SatyrBot, of course. Bot has added all infoboxes correctly. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 06:06, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
