[edit] HBC AIV helperbot5
tasks • contribs • count • sul • logs • page moves • block user • block log • flag log • flag bot
Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic, run on a spare box at my premises in Brisbane, Australia.
Programming Language(s): Perl
Function Summary: Redundant copy of the famous HBC AIV helperbot.
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): Continuous
Edit rate requested: No higher than 6 edits PER minute.
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N
Function Details: The purpose of this bot is to monitor WP:AIV and check if reported users are blocked. If the user is blocked the bot will remove the entry with an edit summary explaining why, for how long, what type of block, and how many remaining reports are left. The bot also has several other, related tasks:
- Combine multiple entries for the same user/IP address
- Add and remove the {{adminbacklog}} template as needed
- Mark IP addresses in special IP ranges with descriptive comments
- Reset the instruction block as necessary when it is changed
Multiple redundant bots are used to ensure that WP:AIV is always properly serviced. The bots are designed such that they will not duplicate work, and can all run simultaneously without problems or significant added load to the Wikipedia servers.
The bot is also now programmed to remove blocked users from WP:UAA.
[edit] Discussion
From being the old operator of HBC AIV helperbot3 before Krellis took over, I seriously know what I'm doing with these bots and know how the codes work (from maintaining and running two perl bots already). I realise that this bot is having it's second BRFA and there is also a request for another helperbot up on BRFA - these bots are efficiently programmed to handle the brother bots alongside it and not get into a fight over the editing. Since the last request, I have bought a new box especially for this bot and its operation as the last box I had did not meet it's requirements (which eventually found a new home to live after I sold it) and I'd like to come back here today to request your further opinions and possibly a trial. Thank you for your time Wikipedians and BAG. — E talk 08:27, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Approved for trial. 5 days. Martinp23 00:31, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- {{BAGAssistanceNeeded}} Bot has been running fine and cannot see any reason why not to flag. Yours sincerely, — E talk 09:24, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
