[edit] User:Bogdan Bot
Owner | User:Bogdangiusca |
---|---|
Function | Automatic creation of redirects from titles with no diacritics (for example Albesti -> Albeşti) |
Language | English |
Program | Pywikipedia-framework |
Mode | started manually, supervized |
Frequency | sporadic |
- I am assuming this does nothing for cases when the redirect already exists, perhaps to something else even. At any rate, from where does the bot generate the list of pages with diacritics so that it can perform this tasks?Voice-of-All 20:26, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I give it a list of links. Well, I used WP:IAR and ran a first batch of 475 redirects. :-) bogdan
- But where does this list come from? Is it autogenerated or manual?Voice-of-All 21:08, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- The list I used now was generated from a list of disambiguations I created, but it was checked manually. bogdan 21:13, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

- This is a great idea, but I did notice one thing. In that instance, you created a double redirect, which isn't a great thing. Are you checking the following:
- Does the new redirect create a double redirect as in the example?
- Does the bot check to make sure that the article does not exist already before creating the redirect? Afterall it is *possible* for something to be created in between the time you provide it the list of names and the time in which those redirects are created.
- What do you mean by the "list of disambiguations" that you created? I'm still a little confused how you generate your lists. -- RM 02:40, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I kind-of finished using the bot for creating the redirects (~500 of them). Maybe I'll be back when I need some more. :-) bogdan 11:42, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Finished or not, you should get the bot flag if you want to do this same task in the future. In terms of bots, I've always been a bit cavalier, erring on the side of IAR instead of BLOCK, but even so, you should still answer all the questions to make sure that any future action is acceptable. Plus, you could always be blocked. There are reasons for requiring bot flags, and it shouldn't be ignored (e.g. Cluttering the RC causes harm, no matter what the bot is doing). -- RM 23:11, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

- Bot ran before approved, discussion archived. Meh...probably not a big deal this time... Voice-of-All 05:25, 13 September 2006 (UTC)
