James Todd Spader, born on February 7, 1960 in Boston, Massachusetts, is an Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-nominated American actor best known for his eccentric roles in movies such as sex, lies, and videotape (for which he won the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival), Stargate, and Secretary, as well as his role as the lead character in the TV series Boston Legal.
Known for his mastery of the smarmy, sexually deviant yuppie, Spader got his start in Pretty in Pink. He also played Alan Shore, leading the mostly-new cast which creator David E. Kelley put in place in 2003 for ABC's The Practice (for which he won an Emmy Award) and was given a leading role in that show's spin-off, Boston Legal for which he won an Emmy in 2005, one of the few actors to win consecutive Emmys for playing the same character in two different series, another being co-star William Shatner.
Before the show's premiere, it had a working title of Fleet Street, an allusion to the real street in Boston where the fictitious Crane, Poole & Schmidt had its offices. The working title was later modified to The Practice: Fleet Street, but this title was dropped in favor of Boston Legal before the show premiered.

Denny with the Rabbi he just shot in the eye with a paperball, the Rabbi's lawyer, and Bethany, in episode 3.16, The Good Lawyer:
Denny: You people have an overreacting problem, you do know that?
Lawyer: [offended] "We people?"
Denny: Yeah, same thing in Lebanon. They grab a few soldiers, you respond with overkill. And that's a problem.
Bethany: Are you saying Israel doesn't have the right to defend itself?
Denny: Well, of course, they do! But you can't blow up a country just because you get mad! Only the United States enjoys that privilege. We're a superpower; God is on our side.
