The Boston Breakers were a professional soccer team that played in the Women's United Soccer Association from 2001 to 2003. The team folded on September 15, 2003 when the league suspended operations.
The Breakers will return as the member of Women's Professional Soccer when the league launches in Spring 2009.

The Breakers won the regular season championship in 2003 with a record of 10-4-7. They were eliminated from the playoffs by the Washington Freedom in penalty kicks in the semifinal round.

[edit] Return of the Breakers in 2009
On April 18, 2007, Women's Soccer Initiative CEO Tonya Antonucci announced that the Breakers, along with teams in Los Angeles, Washington D.C., St. Louis, Dallas, Chicago and the New York/New Jersey area, would be one of the eight teams that will form the relaunched WUSA that will start play in April 2008.[1]
On September 21, 2007, former U.S. women's national soccer team coach Tony DiCicco was named coach of the re-launched Breakers.[2]
