[edit] Speedy deletion

Hi there. You attempted to mark the article Jordan Rhoades for speedy deletion, but used the wrong tag; and indeed, the wrong type of tag. I have absolutely no wish to discourage anyone who wants to help maintain the integrity of our encyclopedia, but I would urge you to learn a little more about tagging before attempting to implement it. You have, after all, been here only a very short time, and a total of only 179 edits is not a broad base of experience. --Anthony.bradbury 21:42, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Many apologies, still learning and I previewed quite a few tags. Unfortunately things such as that are not very intuitive on Wikipedia and there are many choices. My sole intention was to bring it to the attention of the proper people and that worked, but I will continue to learn to execute these things properly in the future. Thanks for the tips and encouragement! Death666 00:24, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
Hi again. I have just been notified by another editor that my comment, above, seemed to be a bit too forceful. If this seemed so to you, please accept my sincere apologies; I was attempting to give helpful abvice, but perhaps failed in my phraseology. Once again, if you felt that I was attacking you, my apologies.--Anthony.bradbury 23:11, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
User:Pedro, with whom we have both interacted, picked it up. No problem, all friends here.--Anthony.bradbury 23:35, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adoption

Hello, Borameer! I see that you have expressed an interest in being adopted by an experienced editor. I accept your request, being an experienced editor myself. Whether you want to learn about wiki markup, find something to do, or just talk to somebody, I'm the one you can talk to - just leave a message on my talk page. Good luck with Wikipedia! CattleGirl talk | e@ 04:06, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] RE: Hello and Thanks

Thanks for the adoption . . . I promise to be good and hopefully do you proud. I mainly wanted this experience so that I can edit better (since I've already used the wrong tag once!) I like to scour the new changes and revert vandalism but admit I get skittish at times and leave the reverts/edits to a more seasoned editor. I also like to pick random pages to cleanup or revise but I know I still have a long way to go. Any advice for a n00b? I'm sure I'll have questions but at the moment I am still trying to get my bearings.

Thanks very much again - Death666 21:04, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

You're welcome, I'm always happy to help... You already seem to be a pretty good editor, and have been a member since early 2004- [1]. It's really good that you're involved in the vandalism reverting- we need as many users onto that as possible.
The picking random pages is a really good way to gain more experience- not only do you sometimes come across interesting pages, but some pages that need A LOT of work that not many people would visit.
If you want some tools for vandal-fighting, have a look at Wikipedia:Department directory. I tend to use Lupin's tools, as they're pretty easy to use and don't require any installation, but there's a lot more tools out there. The page I linked to above have a lot of categories and backlogs that need looking at, so it's always a good idea to do that too.
If you're ever not sure of anything, either ask another editor like myself, anyone at the Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User program, or Wikipedia:Help desk, or look up the relevant policy pages- they'll usually be linked off another Wikipedia page (for example, if you want to delete a page, you'll find a link to the deletion policy on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion- the policy being Wikipedia:Deletion policy).
If you have any questions, defininitely feel free to ask me at anytime- I log on pretty much every day, so I'll answer pretty quickly.
Cheers, and happy editing! CattleGirl talk | e@ 06:29, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Handling vandals

Is there a template or shortcut when dealing with vandals or is this a copy/paste thing? The "Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. Take . . ." with the hand icon?

Thanks! D63

There's a number of templates you can use when warning vandals, all of which can be found at Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace. A link to this is at Wikipedia:Vandalism, and the main warnings you would use are also found there, with some information as well. I hope that helps you- happy editing! [edit] RFC discussion of your username (Borameer)

Hello Borameer, thank you for your contributions. Wikipedia has a policy on what usernames editors can use. Unfortunately, concerns have been raised that your username may be incompatible with that policy. You can contribute to the discussion about it here. Alternatively, if you agree that your username may be problematic and are willing to change it, it is possible for you to keep your present contributions history under a new name. Simply request a new name here following the guidelines on that page, rather than creating a whole new account. Thank you. -- Ginkgo100talk 19:47, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Regarding the RFC, thank you for deciding to change your name. You said on the RFC page, "I do find it worrisome that my edits are in question though." I took a look and found no problems - you are doing a great job with removing vanity content from the date pages. You may also want to consider, when you revert blatant vandalism, warning the editor with an appropriate {{test}} template. This series of templates serves the dual purpose of pointing out the user's error and serving as a record so that vandalism-only accounts may be blocked. Thanks again for your hard work. --BigDT 20:14, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for the comments. Although I will lose no sleep over the name change that single comment "bummed me out". I was doing the warnings before I started tackling the "year" but the attacks come far too fast at times to warn and keep up. I'll try to continue the warnings. Back to the fight . . . -- (Whatever my name is now Death666 20:20, 9 February 2007 (UTC))
There are several tools out there that make warning users a little bit easier. Wikipedia:Tools/Navigation popups is one of them. WP:TWINKLE is another. Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism/Tools gives a good list. With the "twinkle" script, if you go to a user's talk page and click the edit button, you get buttons that fill out the warning for you. I don't know if that would be something you might find helpful, but I thought I would throw it out there. --BigDT 20:32, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
I have a feeling the editor who mentioned a problem with your edits simply made a mistake, mixing you up with another user. I appreciate your contributions, which are really helpful. --Ginkgo100talk 20:48, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Comment: I haven't a clue why your nick ever got to RFC. Your user name seems perfectly fine to me. Anyone that could read inflamatory content into it should also have the knowledge to see otherwise 666 = Book of Revelations, number of the beast. Death = not living. 777= numbers on a fruit machine. Chicken= Common farmyard poultry. Hardly related. Complex stuff obviously.. Never mind my ranting - you are doing sterling work! Thank you! Pedro |  Talk  21:25, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Dunno Pedro but not here to cause undue anguish. The name is actually quite innocent as I was one of the Four Horsemen at work and being an Atheist, well 666 is a silly a superstition as the number 13 and means nothing to me (most names are taken and you need a number that one is by far the most famous). Maybe I should have gone with "Death8679305" :-D. I believe the world has gotten far too Politically Correct but once again, I really have no windmills to tilt. Besides, Borameer (if it is accepted) is the name I have gone by for the last couple years on WoW, xBox Live, all over (Google the name, spelled that way, and it's usually me) so . . . natural progression. Thanks again! -- Death666 23:37, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
You may want to consider going to WP:CHU/U. User:Death has made no edits and therefore the user id is eligible for usurping. I am currently going through the same process to usurp User:Pedro as again the name is registered but never used. Just a thought!Pedro |  Talk  19:22, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
I may consider that but I don't know if "Death" would even be acceptable, I certainly don't want to have to change again, edits are far more important. My name change hasn't gone through so if it hasn't this evening I will stop the name change request and go for the Usurp. Thanks very much for the update! -- Death666 20:05, 12 February 2007 (UTC) (or somebody)
Quick note Pedro . . . I put in for the Usurp of Death. Thanks again for the heads up! -- Death a horseman for a better tomorrowTM 00:46, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

No problem. We all have to fight the vandals. ThePurpleMonkey(talk•portal•contribs) 21:34, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Usurpation

Do you still want to be renamed to 'Death'? I ask because your name has been changed since you made the request. — Dan | talk 02:40, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

On consideration, I don't think 'Death' is really an appropriate username. Are you happy with the present name, or would you like me to change it to something else? — Dan | talk 18:54, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vandalism

Hi, thanks for reverting vandalism on Italy recently. Not sure if you know, but if a vandal's recently had a final warning you can then report them to WP:AIV. Belovedfreak 17:47, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

No problems. I've sometimes found some aspects of warning vandals and reporting them a bit confusing. The talkpage of the page I mentioned can be some help if you're not sure of something. Hope this helps, Belovedfreak 17:09, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Greetings. There is going to be a Washington DC Wikipedia meetup on next Saturday, July 21st at 5pm in DC. Since you are listed in Category:Wikipedians_in_Maryland, I thought I'd invite you to come. I'm sorry about the short notice for the meeting. Hopefully we'll do somewhat better in that regard next time.
