The following comments were left by the quality and importance raters: (edit ยท refresh) Will Smith's "Born to Reign" CD didnt do as well as it could have, but it would of done better, if it hadnt been for the times. Let me explain, I belive that the reason this CD in particular flew off the shelves at a much slower pace was because the media had made such a big deal over Will trying to "make a comeback". The problem is that the (very empty-headed, very narrow-minded and fully guided) kids of today only know and see Will as an actor. He didnt give nearly enough attention to his new album as he (or his label) could have. Basically everyone that I knew thought of it as a soundtrack of sorts to the MIB 2 movie, which it wasnt in the least. See no one is going to rush off to buy a soundtrack, 'cause thats just "not cool". Besides for the lack of advertisement, the problem was the timing. If Will had made that CD just one year later, i fully believe that it would have done muuuch better as far as sales and recognition goes. The reason is that Will came out with a sound on those tracks that were ahead of his time, and I think that the best example is in his song "I Gotta Go Home" which has a distinctive "slow-groove" that mixed rap with reggae, which became very popular (the examples are countless) shortly after the release of this album. If he had brought that song out today, i know that it would we a big hit. Its really a shme too, because there was alot of talent in that album that maybe wont ever get the recognition that I belive that it truly deserves. Holla at me, Chronic mike. iamdelarm@hotmail.com |
