Survivor: Borneo was the first season of the United States reality show Survivor. It was originally broadcast under the name Survivor but its official title has been changed to Survivor: Borneo to distinguish it from subsequent installments of the series. (Before the change to "Survivor: Borneo", the season was known universally as "Survivor: Pulau Tiga", it was then changed again to its present title to avoid confusion with the tenth season - Survivor: Palau.) The show was filmed during 2000 and aired later that year on CBS. It was set on the island of Pulau Tiga in the state of Sabah, off the coast of Borneo, Malaysia. The show was released on DVD on May 11, 2004.
Contestants were divided into two initial tribes: Tagi and Pagong. Later they merged into a tribe called Rattana, chosen by contestants Sean and Jenna, after the large amounts of Rattan wood on the island. After the tribal merge, all of the Pagong contestants were picked off one by one by the Tagi tribe before the members of the Tagi alliance turned on their own. In Survivor fandom, the term "Pagonging" has been used to describe the same pattern.
Richard Hatch was named the sole survivor by defeating Kelly Wiglesworth by a vote of 4-3.
This season was the only season in which the final jury votes were revealed immediately after being cast, rather than months later in front of a live audience, which started from Survivor: The Australian Outback onwards. Despite this, the Survivor: Borneo finale received the highest ratings of any Survivor episode to date.

- In the case of multiple tribes or people who win reward or immunity, they are listed in order of finish, or alphabetically where it was a team effort; where one player won and invited others, the invitees are in brackets.

- ^ The first challenge was a combined reward/immunity challenge. The winning team received immunity and matches.
- ^ Sometime between day 4 and 6, a reward challenge took place that was not shown during the episode. The challenge involved holding weight on poles. Richard and Joel held the weight for their tribes. The reward was a map to a closer water hole.
Note 1: The vote in final four was tied 2-2. In the end, both Rudy and Kelly voted out Susan in the second round of voting.

Note 1: The vote was initially tied 2-2 between Richard and Susan, but after a revote, Susan was unanimously eliminated.
[edit] Elimination notes
- Sonja - Sonja stumbled in the immunity challenge and was believed to be the weakest member of Tagi. Rudy was targeted by three of the women for his overbearing behavior, but Susan betrayed the women and Sonja was narrowly eliminated (voted out 4-3-1)
- B.B. - B.B. clashed with tribemates and asked to be voted out. (voted out 6-2)
- Stacey - Stacey was considered to be the weakest in Tagi and clashed with too many people. Rudy was again targeted by two of the women, but his bonds with his tribe mates proved stronger than Stacey's. She later claimed producers persuaded two of her tribemates to vote against her; allegations were settled out of court. (voted out 5-2)
- Ramona - Ramona was weak and sick for most of her time in camp. She pulled herself around during her last few days on the island, but it proved to be too little, too late. (voted out 4-2-1)
- Dirk - Dirk was a victim of the alliance between Richard, Susan, Kelly, and Rudy. He was deemed weaker than the other alliance outcast, Sean, and was blindsided at tribal council. (voted out 4-1-1)
- Joel - Despite Joel's challenge strength, the women of his tribe felt he was sexist, and Greg sided with the women and voted him out before he had a chance to win individual immunities. (voted out 4-2)
- Gretchen - After the merge, the Tagi alliance targeted Gretchen, seeing her as Pagong's leader. A naive Pagong tribe split their votes a number of different ways, paving the way for her to be voted out. (voted out 4-1-1-1-1-1-1)
- Greg - Greg was targeted by the Tagi alliance for his manipulative skills and his physical strength. (voted out 6-3)
- Jenna - Jenna was targeted next by the Tagi alliance. Tagi exploited Sean's notorious "alphabet strategy" by reasoning that she was next on his alphabetical pecking order; this combined with her efforts of a counter alliance spelled her doom. (voted out 4-3-1)
- Gervase - Gervase was the next booted from the former Pagong tribe. He was deemed more of a challenge strength than Colleen, and his charm made the Tagi alliance nervous. (voted out 5-2)
- Colleen - Though the Tagi alliance had turned on Kelly, she proceeded to win immunity, leaving Sean to be the next in line. However, a last-minute change in voting left Colleen, the last remaining member of Pagong, to be voted out of the tribe. (voted out 4-2)
- Sean - Kelly again saved herself with a crucial immunity win, and Sean's failure to participate in any alliance got him booted from the game. (voted out 4-1)
- Susan - With another immunity win from Kelly, the votes at tribal council were split between Richard and Susan. In a re-vote, Rudy continued to vote for Susan while Kelly turned on her former alliance partner and helped vote Sue out of the game. (original vote 2-2, eliminated by tie-breaker vote 2-0)
- Rudy - Kelly won the final immunity challenge and decided to vote off Rudy, as he was more likeable and more of a finals threat than Richard. Rudy and Richard did not vote, as their votes would cancel each other out. (voted out 1-0)
- Kelly - In the finals, she received votes from Colleen, Gervase and Jenna. She was considered to be two-faced and didn't work as hard as Richard for the million dollars. Her social game won over the three Pagong members who voted for her.
- Richard - Richard became the Sole Survivor. He received votes from Susan, Rudy, and Sean for playing the game strategically and straightforwardly. Greg also voted for Richard; on the show, he claimed to base his vote on the two finalists picking a number between 1 and 10, but in later interviews, admitted that was just to avoid hurting feelings; he actually always planned to vote for Richard. Susan's infamous "Rats and Snakes" speech cost Richard Colleen's vote. Richard ultimately narrowly beat out his competition 4-3 for the million dollar prize.
